Over 45 delegates gathered at the Albert Hall on Wednesday 27 June to
discuss how the community recycling sector could widen its role in the
delivery of collection services to SMEs both in terms of coverage and in
the materials collected.
The event was designed for organisations involved in or interested in
starting SME collections with the focus on what opportunities and recourses
are currently available.
The speakers included Susan Love, Head of Policy for the Federation of Small
Businesses, Liz Morrish, SME Recycling Programme Manager at WRAP, David Gunn, Assistant Campaigns Manager SWAG, and Tom
Kenny, Head of Commercial Operations at LEEP Recycling Ltd.
Susan Love identified the lack of current services available to meet SMEs needs and the type of service they require.
Liz Morrish discussed WRAP’s SME recycling programme, highlighting the opportunities for community recycling organisations to develop SME recycling services and the type of services they could provide. 2007/08 will see the completion of WRAP’s second series of feasibility trails, which will concentrate on food waste, the construction sector and industrial and business parks. Grant funding will be available to community recyclers to help develop their SME collection services with a number of good practice dissemination events planned.
We will keep you updated on WRAP’s grant funding programme, Good Practice Guide and dissemination events when further information is released.
