Regional Forums - Glasgow
The Glasgow Community Recycling Forum (GCRF) consists of community recyclers in the Glasgow area, Glasgow City Council Environmental Protection Services, SEPA waste strategy team and SWAG (Scottish Waste Aware Group).
The Glasgow Forum is one of the oldest Forums and was in existence prior to the CRNS becoming set up as a separate entity. The Forum has a mission statement and aims that it works towards.
Vision Statement
To establish Glasgow Community Recycling Forum as a community voice leading Glasgow in promoting the reduction, re-use and recycling of resources within the waste stream. Through networking, practical partnerships and sharing best practice and experience we aim to encourage social, economic and environmental justice.
Aims
The aims of the GCRF, as agreed by the members on 29 June 2006, are:
1) Internal Sharing
To develop effective communication, sharing of expertise, knowledge and understanding between forum members in order to identify and maximise opportunities
2) Awareness Raising and Capacity Building
To promote, increase involvement and investment in, the work of the members to ensure their long term future and that of the Forum
3) Contact and Partnership
Provide a community voice on behalf of the members to actively engage with, and to develop partnerships with a range of external agencies, in particular those involved in the delivery of the National Waste Strategy
4) To increase membership and regular participation in the Forum
Projects
GCRF are currently working on the following projects:
- Green Guide - A guide on the better use of resources published by Clyde Action. 10,000 copies of the guide are being distributed all across Glasgow and the Clyde Valley. There was also be a series of 'on-air' events to publicise the guide.
- Glasgow Green Map - This map will highlight all the community reuse organisations and charity shops in Glasgow. 20,000 maps have been published by Radius Glasgow and are being distributed all across the city in charity/reuse organisations, libraries and shops. A Google-based map is also hoped to be created later in the year. You can find out more info on the green map blogspot.
- Training - Several training events have taken place, funded by the forum, to allow organisations to increase their skills base. These include First Aid, Manual Handling & Lifting, Chainsaw use, PAT testing, Cooker installation, Management skills, business accounting and many more.
Meetings
Meetings usually occur on the last Thursday of every other month at venues across the city, often hosted by a community recycling organisation. Hosts have included Emmaus Glasgow, Common Wheel, Second Opportunities, Communituy Can Cycle and Glasgow Wood Recycling Project.
