Pass it on Day goes liveMay 11, 2010 ![]() A collaboration between the CRNS and Zero Waste Scotland, Pass it on Day is being designed as a fun series of events across the country - many of them organised by CRNS members - that aim to get people excited about donating items they no longer want but which other people could use. From t-shirts to tables, clothes to cookers, books to bikes, dresses to decanters, reuse organisations across Scotland will accept all sort of household items and use them for the benefit of others. Pass it on Day is intended to fire the public’s imagination in terms of what they might donate and help them see the benefits of reuse to the environment and their local economies as well as to their own pockets. To mark the day, many of these organisations
will be hosting special events across the country. These include The
Grand Reuse House Makeover in Edinburgh, which will see Edinburgh
Furniture Initiative (EFI), RePaint
Scotland , Spruce
Carpets and Fresh Start
collaborate with Castlerock
Edinvar Housing Association to make over a deserted property using high
quality 100 per cent reused and
recycled paint, furniture and carpets. A full list of scheduled Pass it on Day events is available on the Pass it on Day website. We have also launched Facebook and Twitter sites, as well as a Pass it on Day blog, to build momentum ahead of June 5th and get people in Scotland thinking about what they will pass on as well as promoting the social, personal and environmental benefits of donating unwanted goods for reuse purposes. Commenting on the initiative, Pauline Hinchion, chief executive of CRNS said: “We’re really excited about the potential of Pass it on Day to make a mark in the yearly calendar. Everyone has something to pass on and we want to persuade people to de-clutter their house, donate instead of dumping, and realise that reuse has all sorts of benefits to the environment and to society. With events being planned across Scotland, it’s a great opportunity to get out and about and find local organisations where you can pass on items at any time of year. Above all, it’s about having fun - whether it’s swapping clothes or books, uncovering something chic and unique, or pocketing a bargain nearly new bike in time for the summer.” If you're organising an event for the day, please register it on the Pass it on Day website so that you can receive Pass it on Day marketing materials.
