On the up with Fyne Futures’ forklift
By CRNS
December 2, 2009
During its work last year diverting nearly 400 tonnes of
kerbside collected recycling materials from landfill, Fyne Futures found moving
the paletted cans and plastic bottles without the aid of a forklift to be a
logistical nightmare. It also put considerable constraints on the
organisation’s ability to develop.
A CRNS member based on the Isle of Bute, Fyne Futures won an INCREASE Small
award, which enabled them to purchase a quality second-hand diesel powered
forklift. Gone are the days of hiring a Manito or begging help from a local
builder. The forklift, just like the kerbside collection vehicles, runs on 100
per cent bio-diesel made from used cooking.
A relieved Project Manager, Anne Shaw said: “Having our own forklift in full
working order gives me peace of mind and releases staff to concentrate on
collecting more recyclates”.
