LEEP to boost Parliament recyclingApril 20, 2009
The contract is for £90,000 over four years, and includes spot checks on MSPs to find out if recyclable items are being thrown out. The parliament produces a substantial amount of waste each year, in 2005 as much as 154 tonnes was sent to landfill, according to The Scotsman. Over the last year's the parliament staff have reduced this amount by nearly 60%, and 70% of everything thrown away is now being recycled. A spokeswoman from LEEP told The Scotsman: "Give us a few months and it will be the greenest place in Edinburgh." Ken McLean, LEEP General Manager, said he was delighted to be working with the parliament, and that this was the company's "most prestigious contract". Ken McLean also hoped that it would be an opportunity to influence the country's policy-makers a positive way. |
