Shetland Amenity Trust launch Bag Back plastic bag scheme
By Per Fischer
January 7, 2009
Shetland Amenity Trust have been successful in an application for the Climate Challenge Fund, which will result in a plastic bag reduction scheme.
The trust will launch "Bag Back" in April, planned to run for two years, after research showed 6,000 virgin plastic bags being saved per annum from just one small country shop,
Bag Back will allow shoppers to return empty plastic bags for the shop keeper to use again, and again.
David Bryan, CRNS Development Officer, said: "Shetland Amenity Trust is taking a very pragmatic approach, recognising that there are a lot of plastic bags in circulation. Their idea is to collect the bags and make them available to shops for reuse."
