Social added value of GREAN describedNovember 17, 2008
The analysis is described in a paper prepared by the two organisations on behalf of GREAN, and concludes: "It is clear from both the Economic Assessment carried out in 2007 and the findings of this paper that GREAN makes a significant contribution to the wider economy of East Sutherland. "It is not only a commercially viable social enterprise delivering excellent public services in a geographically challenging area but also provides significant social added value to its local community through the provision of meaningful jobs for people who may never before have been given the chance to earn a wage." The paper examines GREAN's social impact as seen from the perspectives of its different stakeholders. John Thurso, MP, calls GREAN an outstanding example of a successful social enterprise, and Jamie Stone, MSP, says it should be the blueprint for other communities. Local councillors also have praise for GREAN. Councillor Ian Ross, East Sutherland and Edderton, says: "GREAN has promoted an excellent level of waste minimisation awareness, good practice and effective community participation. "GREAN must also been seen as a major employer in East Sutherland and makes a significant contribution to the wider economy of this area." The Social Added Value of GREAN |
