Al Fayed goes GREANOctober 23, 2008 Mohamed Al Fayed's Balnagown Estates is the latest business in the North to go green. Estate manager Martin Lynch has just signed up for GREAN's (Golspie Recycling Environmental Action Network) commercial waste recycling service. And GREAN workers uplifted waste from the Ross-shire estate at Kildary for the first time last week. Mr Al Fayed's wife, Heini, had been instrumental in the move, according to Mr Lynch. He said: "Mrs Al Fayed is the driving force behind this. Certainly there is an awareness we should be doing our bit to help the planet." The estate has four letting cottages and also a number of homes for permanent staff as well as the main house and a fully staffed office. Feedback from holidaymakers and staff showed they were as keen as Mrs Al Fayed to have a recycling service. A recycling station has been set up on the estate to make it easier for visitors to dispose of items. Mr Lynch recently visited GREAN's units in Golspie Industrial Site. He said: "I was very impressed, not just by the recycling that was going on there but the social value of the organisation and the number of people brought back into employment who might otherwise not have made it into the job market." GREAN's business waste recycling administrator, Fiona MacDonald, said she was delighted Balnagown had signed up for the service, which has been running for around 18 months. She revealed that GREAN currently uplift from around 24 businesses in the north, including three local distilleries. Government grant aid has recently been awarded to allow the company to expand the commercial recycling operation. "We can go as far north as Caithness and as far south as Inverness and anywhere in between," said Fiona. "Our customers can arrange whatever uplift they want – whether weekly, monthly or just periodically or on a one-off basis." Source: Northern Times |
