Stranraer Recycling Group gets waste diversion fundingJanuary 21, 2008
Robert Day, Stranraer Recycling Group chairman, told the Stranraer and Wigtownshire Free Press: "The combination of great support from the public and volunteers has allowed the group to get to this position without which we would not be at the point we are now." Local councillor John Dougan said: "It's an amazing project that I've known about for some time and the work they do is invaluable part of looking at the issue of recycling. "I've nothing but praise for this group and their initiative." Stranraer Recycling Group was formed in 2003 to lobby on green issues, but quickly realised that collecting cans was a niche in the recycling market. "Since then the group has grown from picking up a few bags a week, to establishing 30 bring banks and regularly collecting from more than 90 per cent of Wigtownshire's commercial premises," reports the Stranraer and Wigtownshire Free Press. Sam Moir, CRNS, who helped the group secure funding, said: "At the end of the day the cans would not be collected if there were no volunteers out there passionate about what they do." |
