Call for nominations for Eventful Scotland Annual Awards

Entries are now invited for the 2007 Waste Industry Awards for Scotland. There is a wide range of categories which have been designed to reflect the widening sustainability agenda faced by all sectors. These categories offer an opportunity for the public, private and community sector to gain national recognition for the advances that they have developed and/or undertaking. Organisations can either enter themselves for an award or submit an application on behalf of another organisation if they feel the organisation has been doing an outstanding job!

Award Categories and Criteria

This year there are six category of award...

Award for Environmental Innovation - This award will be received by the initiative demonstrating how new pioneering techniques have been developed to tackle individual problems in waste management.

Award for Best Waste Minimisation Initiative - This award will be received by the initiative showing how they have best implemented waste minimisation as a key part of their overall waste management strategy.

Award for Best Community Waste Initiative - This award will be received by the community, voluntary, school, or other nongovernment organisation that has shown how they are playing an important role to fit into the national waste strategy by providing services at a local or supporting level to improve the waste management in their community.

Award for Best Partnership - The award for best partnership has been introduced to recognise partnerships that have evolved to meet the needs of an ever changing wastes sector. This award may be a partnership between local authorities and community groups, industry and academia or other joint working arrangement.

Award for Excellence in Resource Management Practices - This award recognises organisations/individuals that have shown an outstanding contribution to the waste industry over the last few years.

Award of the Year - Waste Prevention in the Retail Sector - This award will recognise a successful project or initiative which has reduced waste arisings and/or improved sustainability in waste management within the retail sector.

All organisations that are based in or operate in Scotland are eligible to apply.

All applicants will be informed of the outcome by Friday, 21 September 2007. A representative of each finalist organisation will be invited to attend the black tie Eventful Scotland Awards Dinner on Thursday 11th October 2007 at the Hilton Hotel, Glasgow to receive their award.

Eventful Scotland is a project partnership facilitated by the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM), Scottish Environmental Services Association (SESA), Keep Scotland Beautiful (KSB), the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), The Scottish Executive, National Society for Clean Air (NSCA), Community Recycling Network for Scotland (CRNS) and the Caledonian Environment Centre.
