During the Conference delegates were asked to complete a short survey relating to a few key recycling and environmental related issues. In addition, the same survey was offered online to all CRNS Members who were unable to attend the Conference. 5) What one thing would you do to improve recycling in this country? Comments received include:Should just make better, longer-lasting, well-designed, reusable products. Stop talking about recycling and start talking about waste minimisation Make people take responsibility for their own waste and make them pay by weight – this will make people recycle and reduce more! Increase incentives and relax regulation on innovate recycling processes Re-cycling should become the 4th ‘R’ in primary school education Local Authorities should have the power to fine individuals who are not recycling. Charge householders for disposing of non-recyclable materials/residual waste collections Legislate more severely Financial incentives to recycle rather than taxes Take responsibility for household waste away from Local Authorities Threaten to build an incinerator in everyone’s backyard! Ban co-mingled collections and enforce source-segregated recycling services Make manufacturers responsible for their products - nothing like financial threats to make corporations clean up their act. Increase the cost of landfill |
