Over the last few years the CRNS has undertaken various studies of the sector. According to the latest sector Mapping Study the sector Turnover -
growth of the sector in terms of gross turnover - currently has a £21.92 million
turnover Tonnage -
increased tonnage collected by the sector for recycling, reuse and composting - currently
handles 72,945 tonnes of materials (composts 1668t, recycles 41,798t and
reuses 29,479t) Waste Prevention - increased amount of waste prevented through support offered and
delivered by the community sector - currently prevents 1,000 tonnes Avoided CO2 Emissions - increased CO2 emissions avoided through a
combination of increased waste diversion and CO2 decreases during delivery of
activities - currently avoids approx. 164,000 tonnes of
CO2 equivalent Earned Income - increase in the amount and proportion of earned income against grant
funding of the sector as a whole. Earned income to include sales, contracts and
Public Sector Service Level Agreements - currently earns £9.95M (45%) Employment Opportunities - Increase in the number of jobs created and
maintained - currently employees
1,166.3 fte staff Volunteering Opportunities - Increase in the number of volunteering opportunities
offered by the sector - currently
offers 2,275 volunteering
