CRNS Membership Mapping Report 2008/09: Executive summary
Download full report (PDF 1MB)
There are around 160 community recycling organisations and projects active across Scotland, of which 125 are CRNS members (these figures correct at time of publication). This mapping report draws on responses from the majority of these members and highlights the key role that member organisations continue to play in diverting increasing amounts of tonnage from landfill in Scotland.
Furniture reuse comprises the largest portion of the sector but the report also shows that CRNS members handle a vast range of products and materials that are composted, reused, recycled or re-manufactured – from furniture, white goods, textiles, books, mobile phones and bikes to paint, mattresses, carpets, glass, green waste, rubble and cooking oil.
The work of CRNS members goes beyond having a positive environmental impact. Member organisations continue to engage successfully with communities, groups and individuals (particularly those who are disadvantaged or on low incomes), providing valuable training and economic opportunities in the localities in which they operate.
This executive summary highlights some of the key findings of the CRNS Membership Mapping Report 2008-09. For more detail, including information on how the data was collected and analysed, please refer to the full Mapping Report.
