Member services

Working with our members, for our members

Networking & partnerships

We help members to network and share information with each other through our two annual conferences, specialised working groups, one-off events and the CRNS member e-news. We also work to foster partnerships between our members and local authorities, housing associations and the private sector, among others.

Member support

We provide advice to our members on finance, marketing, and starting up reuse and recycling enterprises. We also help direct them to other sources of business support and offer ongoing assistance with project development.

News & information

We keep our members up to date on environmental policy and regulation, and other relevant news through the CRNS member e-news and the member’s section of this website. The member’s section also provides useful tools and templates, as well as reports and documents, to help organisations operate more effectively.

Market information

Marketing & promotions

We work to raise the profile of community recycling and reuse, and CRNS members, through this website, exhibiting at events, giving talks at conferences and events, and engagement with press and media. We are working to offer more help to members regarding their own marketing and PR.

Impact measurement

The CRNS regularly reports on the work of its members to raise awareness and to help members refine their operations. The latest Mapping Study for 2009/10 shows that they diverted almost 73,000 tonnes of materials from landfill, saved over 164,000 tonnes of CO2e, employs 1,160 full time equivalent staff, offers over 950 training places and over 2,275 volunteering opportunities and helped over 100,000 people over one year.

We are currently working on the 2011/12 mapping study.  Results of this will be available Spring 2012.

Advocacy and representation

The CRNS is committed to representing members as the authoritative voice on issues of sustainable community resource management. We will always argue the benefits of recycling and reuse at the local level and work to expand the range of opportunities for our members and their communities.
